does running burn muscle off along with fat?

ok i know that kinda sounds weird but while i was in the gym yesterday a guy who was also lifting that day told me that if im to run before/after my workout id lose muscle growth. i want to know your opinions and ask a few questions and see if you can help me out with my training exercises

right now im about 178lbs. before i even joined a gym (october 2007 to be specific) and i've gone up to 155lbs. pretty much my first question is: How can i lose the fat i got (i still have somewhat of a gut) and still build muscle?. i eat right, i take ce2 along with whey protein shakes (2 a day along with high protein meals). i usually have a shake with creatine and nitric oxide a glutamine 30 minutes before my workout and a shake (with a high carb drink, a healthy one) immediatly after. and heres my final 2 questions

1. will running and cardio training deplete my muscle gains?

and if yes

2. how can i lose my body fat while maintaining my muscle growth.

all input is appreciated.

btw first time post. i look foreward to posting more in these fourms

I look forward to crucifying you at a later stage. I am too busy at work to do so currently.

If you eat enough protein then muscle loss won't be a problem. If you're trying to build muscle you should be taking in about your bodyweight in protein (Like if you're 155 pounds you want to eat about 155 grams of protein a day). Your diet should be as clean as possible (but cheat once or twice a week). Make sure you're getting enough carbs in to power your workouts.

What worked for me was lifting for an hour and running for about 20mins then doing about 10 mins of sprints after lifting (this was before i started training MMA). I'm not a muscular dude but i'm not going for bulk.

Hope this helps

I have never lost of any muscle with running. And I was running 10 miles per day at one stage in my life (not anymore). My weight stayed the same but I felt a lot leaner. Like people have said diet is key. Plenty of protein. Unless you are running for over 2 hours then you have nothing to worry about.

Run frist thing in the morning before you eat. You will burn 300% body fat than you would any other time of the day. Drink about 16 to 24 ounces of water first to prevent dehydration. Take in plenty of protien and you should not lose muscle. Also I would lift heavy. Maybe 5X5 or I wouldnt go any higher than sets of 10

lol this is funny.
Just to his credit i dont know where he's pulling numbers from (ie:300%) but i do agree when you limit your carbs in the evening and implement some moderate level/long duration cardio in the morning on a empty stomach to burn fat. Reason being you body turns to fat as energy source and you burn that off instead of the food you've eaten all day. The reason for the moderate level is because if you go high intensity your likely to start breaking down protein (muscle) for a energy source.
Dont quote me on this and i can't source it but pretty sure i've read it couple 12x's.
