do you count glutamine as part of your protein intake for the day?
as i'm scooping glutamine into the blender this morning and thinking about my protein intake for the day, it suddenly hit me that i probably take in about another 10g a day because of the glutamine supplementation. so the question is, do you count glutamine in your daily totals?
i'm shooting for taking in about 200+ grams a day but some days get up to around 160-170...without adding the glutamine

Nah, don't count the glutamine as protein.

well, glutamine is an amino acid and by itself would be considered an incomplete protein. this is why i'm curious to see everyone's thoughts on it. when supplementing with it, i'm using it along with complete proteins

if it is one of many amino acids that make up protein, why aren't more amino acids supplement? Maybe they are and I'm not aware, but I mostly see glutamine as the most popular. Why?

I beleive it is the most used amino in the body which is why it is soo popular to supplement into your diet, you can get alot of other amino's alone like arginine for example but i am not sure there has been enough studies on the effects of an over abundance of the other AA's compared to that of glutimine so not as many companies are pushing the others.

Supplements 101
No, glutamine does not count as your protein intake. You should take 3-5 grams before and after workouts. If you take a protein shake then you already get a good amount of your aminos from that but it is good to check the label. You should make sure you purchase BCAA's(brached chain amino acids) that your body doesn't produce naturally but should be consumed from your diet. Leukic by muscle tech is a great supplement to help rebuild your broken down muscles IMMEDIATLY after workouts.
