Caloric expenditure in martial arts

I'm currently working on an excel sheet to calculate different needs for nutrition.

Does anyone know how many calories are burned in bjj, mt and other martial arts? I found a few pointers like wrestling but it would be nice to have something I can use. (Altough I know it wont be very precise anyway)

Thanks

(If anyone is interested, I can share when it's finished, it's based on nutrient timing)

It's WAY too difficult to determine something like that. It would be highly dependant on work rate, lean body mass and normal BMR as well.

I would suggest you ignore the nitty gritty detail like that as determining your genuine calorific requirements over various activities is just too much and often times doesn't even need to be dwelt on.

I would advise the same thing as i would to my own clients, the mirror and listen to your own body. When feeling tired checked your sleep quality and activity levels for the previous days. Tie this back to how much of each macro nutritent you are getting in and you can go from there.

Good trainers know that you need to change things on a daily basis and establish a changable and reactive plan to the clients/trainees conditions.

Sorry, i know that is not a huge help and may seem like i am knocking what you are doing....it's just that the deep level science doesn't really apply in many cases and it can be better to take a more intuitive route to diet and training.

I would think it would be close to Judo but if there is an index for Karate and other martial arts you could average it out imo.... better then sitting on your arse !

At the moment I just have a field to enter the Workout Caloric Expenditure, so maybe I won't change that.

I know that it's impossible to create a perfect caloric calculator, but I need a pointer for myself how much I need for every meal and then I can use the results to adapt the plan to what my body needs.

This is where I am at the moment, feel free to critisize or suggest something.

Caloric Calculator
You can download it as xls (Just fill in random information for the account, no activation needed)

Does anyone know a better way to upload xls?

You can Google and get results for what various exercise activities burn and it will give you a rough ballpark idea. However, it's difficult to determine. Sparring will burn off a tremendous amount more calories than simply throwing a few punches/kicks then trading off and holding the pad.
