Studies show as little as 3.2g of BA yielding positive results, and 4-5g being as productive as taking above 6g. I've not seen any mandate that it should be taken throughout the day, I mean that IS one way to take it, but not seen it as being more optimal.
For some more in-depth information about BA:
BA works by converting to carnosine in the body as stated earlier. The carnosine then acts as a buffer for hydrogen molecules that are released during exercise, which cause performance to plummet. Carnosine soaks up these H+ ions, which yields the following results.
Gains in:
- Lean muscle mass.
- Total work done.
- Power output.
- Time to exhaustion.
- Aerobic endurance.
Delays of:
- Onset of fatigue.
- Ventilary threshold.
- Lactate threshold.
So the smart person asks, can't I just take carnosine? No, and the reason why is the digestive tract. Carnosine gets broken down easily, and if any escapes into the bloodstream carnosinase (the enzyme) eats it up. Not only that but only about 40% of carnosine taken orally actually has BA, and is less cost-efficient for proper dosing.
On a sidenote, the man responsible for BA coming up is Dr. Roger Harris. Some of you may recognize him from the ground-breaking Creatine study in '92.
Oh and lastly if anyone notices a prickling feeling when taking BA, it's normal. It binds to nerve receptors and turns them on (parathesia).

oh and i didnt see this until now but thats the solid basic info, nice post.

I orderd from dpsnutrition. I was gonna get IntraXCell, but its $28 for 30 days at four grams a day. I bought PrimaForce bulk Beta Alanine, 500 grams for $28.
I just cap it myself, and I really think it works. I havn't been getting fatigued as much, and at $28 for 500 grams, I think its a great buy. I'm taking about 4-5 grams a day. I take 1 gram a few hours before working out, 2 grams 30 min before I work out, then I take two more grams after working out, in split dosses.
http://www.dpsnutrition.net/get_item_pe083.htm No info on the page, but it works. I got that tingling sensation when I took 3 grams at once to try it. I don't reccemond doing that, it wasn't very pleasn't. I'm 210 lbs, so two grams is perfect for me, never get the tingling.

I was thinking of ordering from Trueprotein.com; they have both ALCAR and BA, and I was curious if BA was legal in Canada. I haven't seen it at supplementscanada.com, so I thought I'd test the waters with a small order first.
EDIT: BTW, I fired up a post about BA a while back, with some interesting reading:
