How is vegetarianism looked upon on Sherdog? Can I get any diet tips from you here or will I just be flamed for being a vegetarian?

I'm a vegetarian, because I don't see why animals should die when I can get all the nutrients I need elsewhere.
My diet: a large vegetarian fried noodle dish with 3 eggs thrown in, where the vegetables are various and abundant. I usually also have a 4-egg curry (no rice). Sometimes I eat the curry with a nice big plate of fries. I eat cheese (mini babybells - 4 or 5 per day, they are convenient to carry around), and every two days I have a large 12-inch pizza with extra cheese. Aside from this I've come to appreciate eating plain steamed vegetables, usually a mixture of brocolli, cauliflour, spinage and other dark green leaves, and one carrot, and I munch on nuts throughout the day, usually walnuts, cashews and pistatios, or on dried black beans ('the poor man's meat'). I take ZMA, glusosamine sulphate, flax seed oil and a vitamin pill. I drink whey protein shakes after training (50g with water or skimmed milk).
I reckon my diet is pretty good appart from the pizza and the vegetable oil in the noodle dish. I don't always have the fried noodles...but if I don't I usually have the pizza. I aim to cut out the pizza and fried noodles soon...and replace them with more steamed vegetables and maybe some more beans.

Sorry to hear that.
Thanks bobthebuilder for your diet. I've been a vege for about 2 weeks now and so far it's been great. I feel much lighter and haven't had any digestion problems whatsoever. The only problem may be that I'm eating more carbs since I believe protein takes longer to breakdown in the stomach and keeps you fuller.
I'll have a chance to try out tofurkey tomorrow since it's Thanksgiving in Canada. Thanks for the advice and please keep them coming. It's a shame that vegetarians are turned away from this forum since I frequently visited before I became a vege and would like to continue to do so.

Fake meat is oh so sustainable and obviously healthy right? It's so good for you too! It's Monsanto soy, ground rice and water processed and processed and shipped all over the globe. Totally sustainable and full of nutrients!! It's just like planting a turkey!

If it's a sustainable and health reason, I really think support should be given to local, organic (or beyond-organic) ranchers and farmers. Same if you're going to go veggie, support local organic farms if your mission is to save the planet, and reap the health benefits and feel-good factor together. Commercial farming isn't any better for the environment than ranching.

I recently started a vegetarian diet about 3 weeks ago and to be honest I fell amazing. For me its not an animal rights thing at all, I grew up hunting and fishing so I would never turn on meat eaters. I did it to try something new, to see how my body would react without the consumption of meats. So far I've kept all my strength up while shedding about 8 lbs of weight " I ate lean meats before, but mostly lean ground beef and lean steaks". My energy is always through the roof because of all the fruits, vegetables, and fiber that has been added to my diet.
For protein I take in lots of beans, nuts, and dairy "skim milk, fat free cottage cheese". I make alot of recipes such as black beans and rice with steamed brocolli, bell peppers and onions or walnut crumble salad with goat cheese and various fruits mixed in. Can't really bring myself to eat tofu though, stuff just tastes awful to me.
Just to warn you though, the first few weeks, you are going to have some serious meat withdrawels. I still have night sweats from it lol

^^ you seem to like to avoid eating fat. What's up with that?
