Any vegetarians here?
I recently became a vegetarian for the the following reasons:
1) The highly unsustainable nature of producing meat.
2) Health reasons - due to the high level of cholesterol and fat in some meats.
3) Again better health - due to the high level of drugs and hormones that the North American meat industry feeds its livestock.
How is vegetarianism looked upon on Sherdog? Can I get any diet tips from you here or will I just be flamed for being a vegetarian?

#1, there are plenty of other souces for meat.
#2, no, unless you are genetically predisposed to such problems, are sedentary, or eat a diet full crap.
#3, theres always free range, or at least you can stay away from ground meat if you want to be safe. Many companies advertise on not injecting hormones, like Perdue chicken, etc.
imo.
I doubt people will chastise you for being a vegetarian, especially if its due to ethical reasons.
If you want to be a vegetarian though, you should do a lot of research on what combination of foods make up a perfect amino acid compound, and see how they fit into your macros. If that gets annoying, you can always grab milk, cheese, eggs, and protein powders.

Vegetarians that are vegetarians because of animal rights and ethics are okay. I don't agree, but whatever, that's a belief conflict.
Vegetarians that are vegetarians because of some horseshit (err soyshit?) reasons perpetuated by ignorance irritate me. Especially when they claim how much healthier their diet choice is when they eat fried and battered veggies and overpriced mass produced Monsanto grown soy byproducts. That's not a belief conflict, that's just being irrational, a bandwagoner, or willingly ignorant.

That topic rages on. I couldn't particularly care less, but that's just my 2 cents. I have a farmer living within 20 minutes of me that raises organic free range cattle, and seems to be sustaining quite well.

Exactly the reason I eat a high fat and protein based diet from mostly red meat sources. Get informed. Lot o' info here:

This I can agree with; conventional feedlot-raised meat and poultry is shit. It's better than attempting to carve out a pathetic non-meat existence, not to mention sub-optimal athletic performance, but there's excellent options in the form of organic, free-range, grassfed meat and poultry available. Check the FAQ for info.

It's looked on as ridiculous, pointless, and counter-productive to athletic performance and health. Honestly, all one really needs to do is talk to any reformed veggy like Mark Sisson, Robb Wolf, or Lierre Keith; both Sisson and Wolf are phenomenal athletes and incredibly well respected in the nutritional community. Lierre recently released an excellent read called The Vegetarian Myth, which digs deep into the sustainability controversy as well.
That's where Sherdog stands.

being vegetarian is fine, but you don't do it for the health reasons. you do it because you don't like killing other animals, or wasting the resources it takes to make meat.
a third reason you might go veg is because of how screwed up by industry some meat is. but you can combat that by buying local organic meat. (the animal still died a horrible death, and it still took a lot of gas to make him, and it costs more money than mass produced meat, but at least it isnt screwed with quite like mass produced meat is)
vegan athletes can still perform well.

A woman i know became a vegetarian because her village was burned when she was young, and the smell of burning flesh put her off meat for life.
She doesn't come across as a hippy retard queer though.
