Intervel Training every 3 days vs Cardio every day

Howdy.

Getting back into shape, I really enjoy intervel training; ala sprinting, row-sprinting or the like, though, truly sprinting during the intervel session leaves my body wrecked to the point of feeling like I just did a heavy leg day. Can't really do anything for two days.

This, versus cardio every day for 20 minutes (5 min warmup / cool down, 20 min 5.5 or 6.0 running). I say 20 minutes, because body-wise if I do a full 40 minutes on that speed my knees / ankles feel shot ala-intervel training.

Need to get rid of my sally behavior, of course, but for effective weight loss, I'm leaning towards the more frequent short cardio sessions.

Or should I do intervels, then, the next day even do like 3.5 walking for 20 min?

Thanks (for weight loss; asides, I do 3x a week weight lifting, compound / oly's for full body workouts: eg: squat, dead, clean / jerk)

Nope. I used to train 2x a week (grappling / wrestling 40 min, 20 min standup each time), but that was back when I was in shape

That would be the extent of my exercising (above post).

You can do Tabata Burpees it's only 4 minutes.

I do this at the moment:

Monday: Tabata burpees ( at Home )
Thuesday: Boxing
Wednesday: Tabata burpees ( at home )
Thursday: Judo
Friday: cycling at my hometrainer for 1 hour.
Saturday: Boxing
Sunday: Nothing.

So I do 2 times Interval + 1 time home trainer ( aerobic ) training a week.

I used to do a good number of burpees but stopped as it would kill my upper body for weights..then, I noticed most Burpee workouts don't consist of the pushup...lol. i'll probably incorporate your routine (with weights mixed in for the judo / boxing).

thx.

HIIT + Olympic Weight Training = Awesome

Just my opinion, but that's what I train.

I also through in some Plyo's.

Yesterday did Tabatas (20 second sprints, 10 seconds rest) with jump rope.

Pretty much killed me with 8 sets

I need to compare Hiit vs Tabata more, though I BELIEVE HIIT is 1:3 ratio: 30 seconds Sprint, 1.5 min off, 15 seconds Spring, 45 seconds off..etc.

HIIT is just a general term. Tabata is a (difficult) form of HIIT.

^^^
That is correct.

Switch it up a bit with the cardio. HIIT (like 30 seconds go, 60-90 rest), Tabata, Sprints and things like Ross' "Sequential Fatigue Challenge" are all great ways to switch it up.

Hell, just do some of the challenges that are stickied (Snatch, burpee, ongoing conditioning challenge) and check Ross' site for his cardio ideas and you'll have a lot to go on without getting bored or plateauing for a long ass time.

id like to think as long as u clean up your diet and keep up with the burpess/HIIT it would be way better than the longer slower cardio days

yea u lose weight, but u lose alot of muscle mass too
