Workout Before or After Cardio?

Unfortunately I sprained my ankle a few weeks ago and have been off of it since. I am easing back into cardio today with swimming. I also plan to do an abs/core workout.

Would you recommend doing abs before or after swimming? What about for general workouts (e.g. if I was going to do a push routine today)?

I like doing my running or cardio before I lift, hit the bag, ect. Reason is I like to have a lot of energy during cardio so I can get a good one in. If I do anything else before, I usually half ass it because I'm already tired. Just my opionion

No, I'm saying you should read that and look into a real workout. Just doing "abs" and push-ups I don't think it really matters if you do cardio after or before.

I think like most things training wise it depends on what you lack the lost. If you have conditioning worth crap but you have awesome strength then put the cardio work as priority. If you have excellent conditioning and your weak as a kitten, then of course prioritize the strength training.

You could also kill two birds with one stone. How often do you as a fighter have to swim or jog or do that level of low to moderate activity long term, Not much. Why not train more relevant to your chosen sport and do strongman events, things where your doing higher intensity interval stuff like complexes mixed in with lower intensity work for 5 -10 minutes. Tabata Protocal, EDT, strongman events, complexes, sprint work ( once the ankle is better ) etc etc etc

Cheers
