Work in progress

I am currently in the process of training to become an MMA fighter. Right now I am just keeping in shape running and doing some weight lifting. I am about 5 11 with a big build and build muscle very quckly. I feel comfortable in the 160- 180 lbs range. I have basic shooting and takedown skills. I am unexperienced and am a slower striker and looking more into muay thai. I am very comfortable on the ground and have learned submissions moves over the years but havent had any formal training yet.

Any tips on anything would be helpful.

Nutrition, excercises, fighting styles.. etc

Your best bet is to join a gym if you can and your trainer will be your best information what you need to do.

How can you be training to become a fighter if you haven`t even been to a gym yet? There`s a long journey from the moment you walk into a gym to the day you fight and you haven`t even packed your bags yet.

Depends on what you mean by gym. Of course i've been in A gym. I've been doing that since highschool. If you mean an actual mma gym with a trainer then no. I am still new at this and at this time cannot afford professional training yet.

The FAQs in D&S, S&P and conditioning are your friend. As are the Bas Rutten tapes.

I love Bas Rutten tutorials. I used to watch those over and over again.

Yes, most of the people on the Training forums train at fighting gyms.

How do you know? You haven't had any formal training yet, so you haven't rolled with enough people to really understand how the moves work against good opponents who are not only resisting the moves, but also trying to sweep and sub you at the same time.

Join a gym and get a coach. It's the most important thing you can take away from this thread.

I haven't ever been in a sanctioned fight but I have been in fights. Granted its not the same I admit as those who I fought aren't professionals, but I do know my way. I'm not saying im an expert at it. I know I have a ton of space to improve. I am saying that I do believe I can excel at my ground game with the right training.
