So does that mean if you hydrate responsibly through out your workout you will not puke?

i feel sick very ofte when i do excersize, u think drinking some milk of magnesia say half an hour before would help stop tis then if its due to a buildup of lactic acid?

Yes, drink plenty prior to a workout, and bring along a diaper and a roll of toliet paper. Seriously, man, where the fuck did you come up with that?

Learn to work in your LACTATE THRESHOLD, and all will be well.

"The anaerobic threshold (AT) is the exercise intensity at which lactate starts to accumulate in the blood stream. This happens when it is produced faster than it can be removed (metabolized). This point is sometimes referred to as the lactate threshold, or the onset of blood lactate accumulation (OBLA). When exercising below the AT intensity any lactate produced by the muscles is removed by the body without it building up.
The anaerobic threshold is a useful measure for deciding exercise intensity for training and racing in endurance sports (e.g. distance running, cycling, rowing, swimming and cross country skiing), and can be increased greatly with training."

Good info, MM.

Hydrating might have a slight effect in prolonging the duration of exercise time before experiencing nausea (fluid increase may reduce concentration of lactic acid in the bloodstream slightly), but if you're exercising past your anaerobic threshold, hydration will only be a temporary measure before the inevitable happens.

Theoretically, milk of magnesia should NOT help with your exercise-induced nausea/vomiting. The reasons being:

A) The antacid effect of magnesium hydroxide takes effect within the stomach, neutralizing the hydrochloric acid secreted by the parietal cells of the stomach. Almost no effect systemically (i.e. in your bloodstream).

B) Magnesium hydroxide has a laxative/diuretic effect because the osmotic force of the Mg suspension draws fluid away from the body into the lumen of the stomach/intestine. This leads to increased peristalsis, diarrhea, and exacerbates the dehydrated state that your body is in during intense exercise. Bottom line: it leads to even faster lactic acidosis.

Of course, this is all in theory, since I don't have clinical experience with patients taking milk of magnesium for this indication.

Yeah thats what I was thinking. Good post, I always wanted to know the reason for puking during intense excercise.

I always thought that because more oxygen's needed to perform the task, you unknowingly start to hyperventilate, get dizzy, and chunk.

I also think too many athletes eat too close to training

So Correct.. But that is why you train, simply because you want to build you lactic acid threshold up and be able to last longer.
