What the hell is wrong with me?

I just got back from a 2 mile run and that thing killed me. Physically i feel great, but i feel like my lungs are about to collapse. I've been doing jiu jitsu and wrestling for a while now and i literally can go 40 minutes non stop full blown in sparring without getting tired, and yet i can't run two miles without hyperventilating. After the run my muscles weren't even tired one bit, and yet my lungs we burning. What's the right way to breathe anyways?

Expert consensus is an 'in' phase followed by an 'out' portion. These must be equal to be effective, otherwise you can explode or turn inside out.

Just fuckin wicha. Just keep at the running (on grass!) , try to breath in through the nose out through the mouth as much as possible, and it will come easy soon enough. There is probably some magic tempo for breathing during running but you're better off figuring out what's best for yourself rather than trying to force a technique.

I used to have the same problem. Doing a day or two of hiit a week really helped me out.

I'll try and explain how I breathe. aS your feet are coming down in a L-R-L-R exhale on the L then the R, then do a full continuous inhale on the next L-R. Probably doesn't make sense, but that's how I roll.

Any history of allergies or asthma? Have you had a cold or sinus problem recently?

Lung efficency coupled with poor breathing pattern is what usually results in bleeding lungs (what I call them).

The fact that your legs and limbs weren't aching is most likely due to a good lactic acid threshold from the grappling
I get that for the frist 4-5 sessions, after that your breathing pattern adapts and then you have the joy of the legs burning to deal with

Ya, the kind of cardio you use during grappling is not the same as during running.
Bit since you don't have a lactic acid problem anymore I think you will get used to running pretty soon.

The human body is so complex, so many variables, I can play squash for two hours no problem, but if you ask me to run for three miles I am superdone.
