What to do between 5x5 training days?
Hey guys im on the 5 x 5 3-day split progam, and i'm beginning to get used to the workout intensity/load. I want to start incorporating some cardio back into my routine but i dont want to do anything that will hinder my 5 x 5 workout since strength and mass gain are my main goals at the moment. I just want a cardio kind of routine that would at the very least help me maintain my cardio fitness.
Any suggestions? HIIT? LSD runs? Circuit training? Bas Rutten ?

Rowing? Or maybe do some technique training, Judo/BJJ are basically 100% anaerobic and the more fitness you'll get the harder you will go so you will always get a good cardio workout unless youre holding back!

I'm wondering about this too. I plan on running on my off days, a half hour at an easy pace, I can't wait until it warms up so I can run outside again.

i do technique/sparring on and off my lifting days, but between my lifting i supplement it with different cardio tools.
hill sprints
interval jump rope
interval bike
GPP
weight complexes
swimming
etc...
just pick something that gets you working for 30m (more or less). just alternate things because too much of something can have a negative effect in the long run... IE sore joint from too much pounding.. etc...

rest. overtraining is the number one reason why athletes don't get the results they are looking for.

Yes. Rest. Your fast twitch muscles. The rest of your body is still good to go.
I like Fight Songs list, but I personally wouldn't do complexes, stick more w/ skills, GPP and HIIT / TABATA.

Jogging, bike riding or swimming. I prefer swimming. Great cardio and good endurance work for almost every muscle in your body. Plus it helps increase bloodflow throughout your body thereby speeding recovery.

During my last 5x5 cycle I was riding my bike like every day. Nothing to intense, but enough to work up a sweat. Seemed to help with recovery and kept me from heading to the gym when I shouldn't have.

Rest is very important. If you are resting enough, getting all your sleep, relaxing, naps when possible.. then you can train more and not be over-training.
Same with a clean diet. If you're eating enough (1) and eating good foods (2) then you can train more and harder.
Even so, if you ever feel burnt out, you need to swap a cardio session to "easy mode" and have some fun. Instead of hill sprints, go ride your bike in the sun for a nice relaxing pace, or instead of hard swimming work, just play in the pool and relax.
Sitting on your ass is not the only resting. Active recovery is the best.
