Is it a waste of time to do cardio before surgery?

Would I be wasting my time jogging etc before I get shoulder surgery? Will it all be gone by the time Im ready to slowly start training again? Thanks

no you should, the better shape you start in the better your body is at healing itself. also if you injure your shoulder it doesnt take all that long to get on a bike (thats what i did when i had elbow sugery) which can be helpful for maintaining your cardio level.

I'd imagine that with shoulder surgery they'll suggest that you get back to exercising on a bike within a week of the surgery. You won't detrain that quickly, so you should continue doing cardio right up to the surgery.

If you take a week or so off, it is not like all the training you have ever done in your life up to that point goes to waste and you start over from scratch after your surgery...

By bike, I'm assuming/hoping you guys are referring to a stationary bike. With your arm strapped to your side you would have a harder time controlling a bicycle & avoiding dogs, kids & idiots that step in front of you and you'd be fucked if you didn't avoid them.

But I agree that it would not be "a waste" by any means to exercise right up to your surgery, and again as soon as you can after.
