Training @ the Beach. Need some ideas.

Hi Guys,

Forgive me if this has been covered before - I did a search and didn't find anything too obvious.

Basically its summer down under and my trainer is big on doing beach work atm - However my back is stuffed so running is out for me atm - which is basically the main thing they do. My shoulder is also injured so swimming is out. Rather than just stay at the gym like a sad sack and work by myself, i'm thinking i might head down to the beach and try some water exercises. This is where some input would be nice. I figure i can go and just tread water, which might be a good exercise for legs / lower back - and do some resistance training using the water, walking through it with a light weight or something like that. Any ideas or suggestions on what else I can do?

cheers
Kai

Hill sprints in the sand are good.

Yeah I'd definitely like to do stuff like that, but i was more thinking about stuff in the water.

Due to my back injury, sprinting and running is probably not such a good idea.

How long are you expected out of commision?

running in about 1 - 2 feet of water is great for burning out the legs.

^that's what I originally thought. It wouldn't be as rough on your body either considering it'd take such little time to tear you up. Try that out and let us know how it goes.

OK that sounds like a plan, will do. We are going down there friday so I'll try it out and let you know how it feels. Might take some wrist and ankle weights and try walking in deeper water also.

as for the length of the injury, its pretty hard to say. i'm thinking (hoping) around the 6 month mark to get back to using my legs properly if i treat it right - but really, its anyone's guess.

When your all healed up and ready to run again......put hockey skates on and run in the sand with them.

Old school technique but it works ^^
