I'm not trying to be a smartass, but the best way to improve running and push-ups is...running and push-ups. Run distance one day, intervals/hills the next, and so forth. Push-ups you can do multiple times a day.

Air Force ROTC huh?
Long distance running some days, sprinting the others. To get your body used to long distance running jog if you have to, but keep the pace..

Pushups, do 200 every other day for a while until you improve. do 200 pushups in a workout method in sets of 25 till you hit 200, then the next day for pushups spread the 200 out during the entire day.

Isn't the Air Force PT pretty easy?

Air force PT is beyond easy... long as you arent in a wheel chair and have lungs

but some specialities in the AF are serious PT business

The difficulty may come from a demanding ROTC unit. For people asking about improving their pushups and military PT test scores I typically recommend Stew Smith's articles. http://www.military.com/Opinions/0,,Smith_Index,00.html

you want to improve your 1.5 mile time. can you run 1.5 miles straight? or is there jogging in there?what about 2 miles?(without jogging or walking) whats your time and your goal time?

for pushups. id suggest going to one or two before failure every hour a day.
if you can do 5 before you cant pushup anymore, than do 4 every waking hour for maybe a week. take a day or a day and half off and max out. maybe your max will be ten. then you can go to 8 or 9 every hour for the next week then max again and keep goin. good luck
