Tips for the "Beep Test" (Multistage Fitness Test)

I'm running it on Monday for gym class after 2 weeks of a health unit on stress and mental health. I'm not sure what my teachers logic is, testing our fitness after 2 weeks off, but I'm running it no matter what. Now, around the internet I've found tons of advice on training for it, but none for actually running it.

A few things I've found, not sure if they're any good...

1) Take long strides early on to preserve energy
2) Go as slow as you can for as long as you can
3) Keep a decent pace up on the early stages so you have small rest time when you get there before the "beep"

Can anyone tell me which ones/if any of these work, and possibly add some advice of their own?

I usually do number 2. That's what got me the best results whenever we do it. Walk in the opening rounds, you'll still make it.
