You need to improve. I can run a mile in 7 minutes and I'm slow as hell. Improve.

you should be able to do your min in 6-8 mins your lap times should be in the 1:30 to 2:00 min range i have had friend that are about 300 pound that can do a lap in 2:00 mins. But good try for your first time mile.

yeah sorry but that is slow = don't despair just work at it. You have to work hard but dont get frustarted or hurt yourself

my best 1 mile was 5:40 and that still is not that great. 10 minutes is more of a jog and is ok if you are doing like 8 of them. Bu everyone starts somewhere

Sounds like my pace but don't fret we can improve with practice. Maybe you never had to run away from anyone so you never had to practice!

Good job. At least you got out there and did it.

Keep trying to improve. Try running 1.5 miles at 12 min pace. Also run some intervals (sprinting, slow jog) to improve your speed. Run a quarter mile at a 10 minute pace, then walk a quarter, alternate for 6 quarters each. As you improve increase the pace.

Good luck.

If you find running to be difficult, you may also want to check out the book, Chi Running by Danny Dreyer. I thought it was very worthwhile. Some people swear by it. It's on par with Total Immersion as a swimming aid -- techniques to maximize efficiency and minimize effort.
