For those who work out in the morning before work/class

Do you choose to eat breakfast BEFORE or AFTER your workout?

What are the advantages and disadvantages of each?

After. I'll lift weights, or do a cardio workout and my breakfast will be my recovery meal. Which is usually oatmeal and some whey. Then I'll go to class.

I'd say after is better. You don't have to wait for your food to settle.

you really should try to workout with as little food in your belly as possible.

your body wants to go into parasympathetic rest and digest mode while you are tyring to go into sympathetic mode.... not a good pairing.

After. I usually lift early and eat a full breakfast around 9.

My routine is very similar. I have PT early, then I hit the gym, after which breakfast is the recovery.

Definitely after, but if you get up extra early, it might help to eat a half banana for some easily digested energy.

Try out both and do each a few times. You know your body better than anybody else. I ocean swim with a friend from the service 1x/week. We will do a mile and he has to suck down at least 3 cups of coffee and a mouthful of dip or he cannot perform. Everybody is different when it comes to PT. If I even smell coffee before a workout I am fucked.

Personally I PT early before work with no food. I get sicker than dog shit if I PT within 2 hrs of eating. But that is just me, you may need food. Afterwards I grab oatmeal, banana, protein drink (depending on workout) at around 9am.

Depends on if you're trying to build it or lose it. If you're cutting, after. If you're looking to increase size/strength, before.
