A Japanese scientist who did a clinical trial of a 4 minute workout and it's effects on endurance.

He said that 20 second sprints with a 10 second rest for 4 minutes straight (on exercise bikes) increased endurance by 25-30% over 6 weeks.

Man, if i hadn't just read this in my Ross book i'd tell you to google it you cocksmuggler.

the Tabata protocol (20 seconds full out effort following by 10 seconds rest repeated 8 times for a total work period of 4 mins) can be applied to all kinds of exercises

Tabata Burpees

Tabata punchouts

Tabata sprints

Give Tabata sprints a go. if you truly go all out, it's a great workout

Sprints are the shit. The other variations are for guys training sport or performance specific (or people too scared to do sprints)

Instead of set interval times why don't you guys just buy a HR monitor? It is much more effective and you can tailor your workouts. This makes for a much more effective approach. The Tabata protocol could have varying results between athletes,

Having a HR monitor has nothing to do with Tabata intervals - one is a training type and the other is a piece of equipment. If you really wanted to you could wear a HR monitor during tabata's and measure your results.

If you're talking about waiting for your HR to drop before beginning another method, it won't work with short intervals. It takes a little while for HR to change during/after a hard workout, and we're ooking to minimise the rest period here.

As for the TS, not doing any research at all before asking a basic question normally gets you called more than a cocksmuggler. People here are happy to help but you're expected to at least consult the FAQ's or Google before asking a question.
