Tabata Burpees
I've been working mostly powerlifting. I was running cardio on the side but took a week off (shin splints or something).
Just now did some core work, then ran medium paced mile, got home, iced my shins and decided I needed more cardio. Looked up tabata on T-nation for info...used an online punching bag timer to make perfect 20 sec rounds 10 second rests. Just finished i 8 tabata rounds. *BREATHES HARD
- Panting extremely hard, sweating profusely NEED to drink juice and water.
- Those 10 second rests were like NOTHING! Almost wish they weren't there because by the time you know what's going on, you're starting another round of sheer pain and exhaustion.
- I realize even though I can lift and run long distances, I'm in REALLY poor shape.
/end rant.

Tabata burpees are great. I hate long distance running but with burpees it's like you push yourself for 4 minutes then your heart rate stays pretty high for 10-15 more. It's almost like jogging but without the work.
The biggest improvement that I've noticed from Tabata is that it develops an incredible recovery time and it improves anerobic and aeroic endurance simultaneously, something you'll never get from distance running alone.

I feel your pain.
I've been doing tabbatta for the last six or seven weeks, and tabatta burpees for the last four weeks, they fucking kill man, but like chia said they improve your recovery time like nothing I know.

I mostly do tabata Rowing, or Jumprope. Good lord the 10 seconds = nill
Whenever I do burpees, I do a set of 10 w/ a pushup (I learned that way, never knew that most burpees are done without). Rest for 1 min, then do 4 more sets.
I'll have to try them w/ tabata intervels...its only like 2-3 reps per 20 seconds correct?
Also, if you like, a forum posted 3 mp3's of different training audio files: with a bell / buzzer
Tabata 20:10
3 min / 1 min ruond
4 min / 1 min round
Let me know, I'll track it down

I would really like that if you can track it down.

Personally, I don't like tabata burpees, the movement is too long.

Exactly: the first rest was sort of like a rest. The last one I thought the timer was broken.

I did explosive pushup burpees with a jump after standup for a good portion... I think that's what killed me.

I actually tried to go all out and do like 1 per second or two at the beginning. By the END, yes 3-4 max.

I like the full range, explosive pushup, squat, core work, rolled into 4 minutes - great compound work.
Now I have to find a tabata w/ pull and one with a twist. Hey get this! Chin up - tuck knees at peak whip from side to side x 4, then back down, that tabata'd would be great/horrible
