T-Shirt/Towel Shin Conditioning Method
I have just about all my striking surfaces conditioned to impact at this point, forearms, hands, balls of feet, etc. Can throw a full force elbow or straight right at a maple tree without hurting myself.
But my shins are just plain girly. Checking a roundhouse hurts like shit, and will leave a lump/bruise on my shin for a week. So I started conditioning them about 3 days ago, doing what my friend (who has shins of carbon steel) suggested, which is kicking a cedar tree in slow motion 10 times on each side, and then somewhat harder 3 times. I heard kicking trees is bad, but it worked for him, and I'm not going anywhere close to full force yet.
But I just heard of this method - Dailymotion - Shin Conditioning from K-1fans.com, a video from gwmma. hellfighter, fan, shin, condition
Anyone out there tried it? Feedback appreciated.
Thanks.

I'm not sure if this is a joke or not but.....
That video is retarded. Kick a 100+ pound heavybag without shin-guards. It conditions shins and works on your kicks at the same time. Genius!
Btw, you hit like a bitch if you can punch a tree "full force" without hurting yourself.

Ok that's what I thought, about the video anyway.
But about the tree thing, since the first day in kempo training (around 3 years ago), I've been doing knuckle pushups (one and two handed) on cement, asphalt, gravel, etc. Though punching a tree does torque my shoulder/elbow a bit.

Here is a crazy thought:
Do the same thing for your shins that you did to turn your other "striking surfaces" into steel.

Asside from kicking a heavy bag without guards a buttload, I just grabbed a rolling pin and rolled it up and down my shins. After a bit I was able to push pretty hard on that thing.

Hitting the Thai bag for a long time without shin guards will help. Another thing we do is leg checking drills where only one guy wears the shin pads...this is gradual and better than both not wearing them.
Another thing I had great success with was taking a round steel support beam in my parent's house and lightly tapping the shin into it...it's brutal and you have to start real slow but it makes your shins tough! That's sort of the old school Chinese Kung Fu method.

Also search in the forums in the stand-up section on "rolling glass" or "shin conditioning" there are some great discussions on this over yonder.

I have an extra bag chain at home, so I swing it around slowly and check kicks with it and slowly increase the speed of the swing until it starts to hurt a little. I stop before it hurts, cause I don't want to damage my shins and have to miss training. I'm pretty sure it's working too, I was sparring the other week and me and my partner both accidentally threw leg kicks at the same time without shin pads on and I was fine. The other guy wasn't too happy though haha.

I'm going to have to agree with this as well. If you can hit a tree full force without hurting something (badly busted knuckles, broken hand, injured wrist), you don't hit very hard.
