Swimming for MMA training?

The other day I was reading about the benefits of swimming over other things like running, and it seemed like swimming would be a good alternative to running for MMA conditioning. You can do it every day due to it's low impact, and some effect being in the water has on the body (I think the heart works better when it's not fighting gravity allowing the muscles to heal faster, but I really have no idea). Also, you have to learn to control your breathing, condition your lungs to make the most out of the oxygen they get and work both upper and lower body. Seems like the ideal workout to me. Anyone heard about/tried it?

I say do both. running really strengthens my legs while swimming really helps with more of upper body and cardio.

I have to admit asking people if they have tried or even heard about swimming is kinda funny.

Swimming is a great exercise because it gets the body moving as a whole. It's hard to keep up a good clip in the water if your arms and legs aren't working well together.

However, just like any exercise it's up to your goals that determines if it's the proper exercise you should be doing. For MMA conditioning it can be extremely helpful, however I would point out that other things such as shadowboxing and circuit training can be used for cardio and have more direct implications for MMA.

Easy boys, he was joking... next time read your post thread-starter for errors before you start one. If you guys can't take paolo27th's joke you're in for a rough ride in this forum. Everyone busts everyones nuts around here, don't take it personal.
