straight up simple question (opinion)

I am 5'8" 165lbs of mostly muscle, a lil fat, if I run the 5k in just under 20 min would you say I was in "Excellent shape"?

If you deadlift over 380, bench over bodyweight, and can do 20 deadhang pullups, then yes, I would say you're in great shape.

Your run time is very good, but it alone can not provide a high level of fitness.

The deadlift was for his bodyweight x 2.3. It's a made-up number to prevent me from considering myself in good shape.

Seriously though, for me, great shape is:
Sub 20 minute 3 mile run
Sub 6 minute 1 mile run
20 pullups
2.3x DL
2x Sq
1.5x Bench
1.5x Clean

There are a ton of other criteria I'd toss on as well, but I think if you can accomplish these you most likely can also accomplish them.

Those seem to be pretty lofty goals but they do seem fair for a great rating.

Just judging from the guys i work out with and all the other guys at the gym, there are very very few guys that can hit all those. But i do know guys that bench what they can squat and refuse to DL.

not too sure about the clean, its not generally used for a strength measurement as its very much related to DL but with more form necessary.

*does math, needs 120lb added to DL*

*quickly kisses bicep... puts away*

Exactly, we can't all be great. My reason for the clean was more to test motor skills and amusingly enough smarts.

In my case, I feel I could reach all of the strength goals, but I doubt I could manage the 3 mile time simultaneously. To do so would require what amounts to superhuman recovery. If I was training the running to cut the time, the only strenth gain I'd get is the proportional change due to my weight loss.

I do know a handful of people who could achieve this feat, all of them being under 175lbs.

You've inspired me

I think i will try and meet your level of greatness

should have the running or close to it
got the pull ups

At 215 - 220 lbs

DL need 115lb
Squat need 25lb
Bench need 60lb
Clean need 120lb

Have not done a real test of my max clean yet, and Dl has not been tested for 1 RM as the first exercise of the day and have only been back doing it for a couple months.
