First off spot reduction is a myth sold to fat housewives. Doing situps will develop your abdominal muscles, nothing more, and if they're covered by an inch of fat then you can do 1000 crunches a day and you won't make your midsection look any different.
Get your ass out and run, cycle, jump rope, etc. Eat better, and eat less. That's the only way to lose the gut and love handles.
