Starting up again with a different routine.

Hi, I've taken a pretty hard break from training for about 6 months. I'm starting up again and I'm trying to get my cardio up. I'm doing 10 burpees a minute for 5 minutes, only resting during whatever time I have left in the minue after performing all 10 burpees. I'm trying to work my way up to 10 minutes and 100 burpees. Is this a good diea or is this more harm than good?

seems like a good idea, but you should supplement it with other things
do you train in anything?

I just moved to Pittsburgh. I train in Muay Thai and Bjj but haven't found a school yet. The conditioning is just to get into enough shape that when I start at a new school I don't gas in 2 seconds. I also feel too exhausted to do any other exercise afterward. Should I be able to do other things or is this a pretty decent all round workout. I kinda feel pussy in that I'm only working out for 5 minutes and I gone. A 5 minute workout doesn't seem to cut it. Any advice is much appreciated. Also my diet is getting better so it shouldn't be too much of a dietary issue.

Simple solution. Go for a 25 min run and do the burpees straight after.

Don't know much about your age and health issues but burpees are kind of intense for someone out of shape. Longer durations of exercise are safer and probably more beneficial than 10 minutes of burpees.

Yep totally agree. Use this time to develop a solid cardio base. 40 minutes of long slow. I also like the protocol Joel at EZA uses. Crank the bike or Versaclimber to max and do 20 minutes 10 active rest and 20 minutes again. Just watch your HR.Also don't wait to get in shape to train. Training in the sport you want to get in shape for will get you in pretty good condition. Once you reach a certain level of proficiency ( like after a year ) is when you NEED to start supplimenting w/ additional work. This is when I see the need for interval work. Only after the athlete has adapted to the demands of regular training in the sport. I usually try to stay out of this forum because it is hard to prescribe workouts without a solid knowledge of the athlete. Also I feel EZA has given a wealth of information that every one could use...so DO! (USE IT)
