starting MMA at 27

I did not know where to post this, and I could not post in the ask the fighters section.
I also ran a search.

I recently started BJJ, and will soon start Muay Thai with it.
I have never had a background in martial arts.
Do you have to have an extensive background, or can I train for a few years and maybe compete?

How can anyone answer this? I mean really, get some training under your belt and start entering competitions. Just get to it and see how far you can take it. If somebody told you in this thread that you're too old, would you quit?

3 days without food, water or encouragement will get rid of the undedicated... get off my fucking porch.

your right, stupid question.
And to answer your question, no I would not quit, guess that pretty much answers my question.

Hey I'm going to start after I get healed....and I"m older than you....and a girl!! I would like to step into the ring someday....however...that may change when I get hit in the mouth during sparring. I"m excited about it though. I've always been a runner and a biker......mma has been a distant dream....but ya know what..I'm gonna do it! I'm sure I can show those kids a thing or two, or die trying. Good luck!

It's never too late. I know guys who started when they were in their early 30s. They don't compete but they still enjoy the skill and fitness level involved.

Bottom line: Do whatever makes you happy.

I'm 31, and started training 4-5 months ago. I plan to compete and win, so there ya go. Kick some ass, man. Too many people get too wrapped up in their chronological age. Worry about your phsical age... you're only as old as you let yourself be.

You can never be too old for anything. I'm 36 and don't have any fitness experience.
But, I just started taking jiu-jitsu and I've never felt better!
P.S. I'm also the mother of an 8yr. grappler who knows more than me!
