side stitches don't necessarily mean u are too out of shape (partially can be though) but possibly u have not run enough to become accustomed to a correct breathing pattern. Don't try to think to breath when a certain foot hits the ground cuz that's just retarded and nearly impossible (well for me). Just do not make shallow inefficient breaths, always take long deep breaths at a steady set pace try not to change it through ur run even though it prolly will when u werk harder. About eating before running I cannot give a definite answer cuz i can eat like 20 minutes before a run and not cramp up but a good guidline is to wait like 1-2 hours. If all else fails than maybe artofFighting is right and ur just too out of shape right now.
