Icon9 Shoulder Separation

About 2 years a go I suffered a 3rd degree separation of my left shoulder in judo. I have been in pain every day since. I know there is surgery for this injury. My physio said if I had it it could be better or worse. Anybody have this surgery? Did it help? Those that didn't what helps you? Anybody try any braces or anything like that?
Thanks

I personally haven't had a shoulder seperation, but I know plenty of fellow wrestlers that have. I've seen the majority of them do light resistance lifting to rehab the injury. However, for many of them it is a continously nagging injury and they never really recover.

Good luck

Oh man. Any of them have surgery? I did lots of resistance training for rehab (still do). It helps but I can only do about 8 pushups or one set of light bench presses until its grinding bad and swells. I still roll but afterwards I have to ice it and take a couple advil just to make it home. My physio told me to stop but ...

I know two that have had surgery. One guy healed up pretty well, only rears itself every once in a blue moon. Another has had surgery and will be going in again for another surgical procedure. His injuries are far more drastic though.

Well, I never had it.

But a guy I train with had it.

He said that the 2 months following the injury he couldn't even lift his arm.
He said he couldn't train for 9 months.

This really sucks. On a more positive note : he recovered completely, and is one of the best guys at my BJJ gym, and also one of the best in another wrestling club. He's really strong, fast and has an explosive game.

The point being : it may take some time, but u may recover 100 % from this.
Just be patient, my friend.

Pardonnez-moi. Mon Français est merde. I'm working on it.
I just moved here from Vancouver and I'm still without a club. Any suggestions on a BJJ club? I think judo out for me right now. I can still roll but can't risk being dumped on my shoulder.
That's great your friend healed well. It gives me some hope.

I got one playing football about 8 years ago, but i doubt it was as severe as yours. It still nags today but only when i slack off on lifting. After it heals i recommend sticking with a good workout routine.
