Should I work-out when I'm sick?
I workout 6 days a week. Everyday I do something different. Whether it be running, push-ups, sit-ups, etc. Well anyways, I'm sick right now with a cold. The cold is not horribly bad, but it is bad enough for me to spend my Friday night at home. So my question is, should I still work-out? Is it okay for you to work-out while you are ill? Thanks.

My rule of thumb is this. If it is in the lungs and airway tract I don't ever workout, common head cold, I may do a eliptical or something. But overall I have ben sick twice in the last four years, when it happened I did nothing until I was better. That would be my advice.

Nope take time off, I have tried to work out while being sick before and it just got worse, your imune system needs time to recover, drink lots of fluid. You should probably take a week off at least.

I agree; if it's a mild cold with symptoms above the neck, do something along the lines of active recovery, at the most. Intense exercise temporarily lowers your immune system.
If you have a fever, body aches or like coach said, anything involving the lungs, don't work out at all.
I'm nursing a freakin' nasty cold that's made it way into my chest. Vegas was just too much fun, I guess.

I use...if it's above the neck...I work out....below...I take off. Or something like that.... if it's just a head cold I do something. It's it's a respiratory thing....gotta take the time off for that....
I would not argue with one day of good rest though....

There was a T-Nation article all about this, and they said you SHOULD work out when you're sick. It said your endurance won't be as good as usual but your strength is actually at a higher level than it usually is.

Because somehow that would make total and complete sense! Getting sick is like an instant shot of retard strength!

I didn't write the article. I'm telling you what an article on T-Nation said, that's it.
