Should i lose weight for boxing?
Okay I'm a 15yr old 6 foot tall boxer that weighs 70kg. My problem is that I have lost my last three fights(one was last night). All my opponents in these last three fights have been the same height or taller than me. This frustrates me because I love to use my height and jab to keep my opponents away from me. I am thinking i should move down a few weight classes to light welterwight or welterweight. Now people are telling me not to lose weight for boxing to go to a lower weight class and all this shit but i want to because I love boxing. They go on about BMI and that I am this weight because I am tall and growing. They also say that if I am under 70kg it will stunt my growth. Is this true? If anyone could give me some advice it would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

At 6' you'd be monsterous for a WW. If you're capable of it, go for it. If not, JMW might be good.

When i was your age i lost about 25pounds within 6 months. No dieting just judo, jujutsu and a bit of weights and cardio. My advice to you would be to get in shape, whether this means your in the weight class your in atm or in a lower one. I managed to lose weight and gain strength at the same time, but i was quite flabby at one point and had a much higher BMI than you. Eat healthy and train hard and you should be fine. Dont try to keep your weight down artificialy though, that could hinder growth. Its only a low risk, but it is a risk.

You're young, light, and tall. Learns from your mistakes and improve rather than losing weight.

Er, there's every chance in the World he could be in the wrong weight class.

not often ill disagree with u bro- but 6ft and 70kgs is very light , hes still going to grow some and put on weight anyway. 15 is very young too, he should concentrate on skill and athletic development, there are at least 10 years to go before he peaks.

Yeah but there's also no need for him to be in continually with bigger guys. That's why there's weight classes even in Amateur Boxing.

honestly, 6ft and 70kgs is a beanpole. maybe hes just used to dealing with guys he has some height on, and when the reach is equal he struggles because an advantage he normally relies on isnt there. if he sticks with boxing, inevitably he will come across someone with a reach advantage, so learning to deal with that is vital. thats all speculation obviously since iv never seen him spar.

If he's a beanpole then they guys he is going against must be microscopic.
