I have them and how do I get rid of them?

I'm not expert, but i would think the obvious answer would be to rest.

Shin splints will be less common as you become more accustomed to running, jumping, etc

Ice, rest, put some wieght on your toes and pull them towards your knees...invest in good shoes, change the surface you run on if you can. I can't train on asphalt...I have to run on a track or something like that.

Good advice. The most important thing to prevent them, like girljock said, are good shoes.

They're not permanent, your body just needs to get used to running. Alternate ice and heat.

I take elbow supports and put them over my calves it works every time. Anyway you can put tight compression on the shins it will work

Aside from the exercises mentioned, ice and ibuprofen (advil) are the only things that help mine... oh, and sometimes I wrap my ankle/shin and that helps as well.
