Semi-OT: A bunch of small pieces of info and advice
(This is a bit off-topic, as it pertains to more than just conditioning. I just thought that this is the best place to post it, because pretty much everything MMA athletes/trainees do relates to conditioning)
Here's the thread concept: this thread is for little random tidbits of information that you might know from somewhere and that aren't really basic or obvious. Those bits of information can be about anything and everything that relates to being a better athlete.
I'm talking about the little pieces of information you might pick up while browsing the forums, reading articles, talking to your trainers or other knowledgeable people. You don't have to explain anything in great detail, and you don't have to be completely sure if what you're saying is true. Think of it as posting a topic for others to research. Just post. The more the better.
This thread is to help prevent making mistakes, to save time, and make learning easier. It's up to you how basic or advanced you want to go. Supplements, cardio, weight training, stretching, injury prevention, nutrition, health, mental conditioning, advice to amateur fighters, relationship help (j/k)...whatever you think might be useful.
I'll start with a few:
1. when bying green foods supplements, avoid ones with bacteria culture in them - those make blood more acidic (this affects recovery).
2. when weight training, try single arm movements - those have a lot of carry-over into martial arts.
(..but please don't clutter up the thread with arguments or discussions. Remember, everything posted is intended to be fully researched before being accepted by the reader)

- Doing LSD on a windy day? Tape them nipples up!
- Always run in two pairs of socks - a wool/cotton pair first, synthetic second. Keeps your shoes tight and reduces friction.
- Don't get too accustomed to your ipod. You should never find yourself searching for a specific song in order to get yourself adequately motivated.
- Never run on the days before or after ME squats or deads, unless for light recovery.
- Devote at least one day a week to passive stretching, for it is good.
- Grease the groove, all day, every day. Get up now and do 50 BW squats, pushups, etc. or spend 30 seconds working towards a planche.
- Turn lightswitches on with your toes.

Sorry, but I'm rocking the boat 3rd post in. Greens+ contains 8 non-dairy bacterial cultures, and I've never heard of probiotics even remotely affecting blood pH. I'd like to see some sources.
Ok, here's my advice:
-Before you set out to design a workout program, spend twice as much time on looking at your diet.
-Compound movements, girls. This ain't for asthetics, it's funtional. That is why you are here, right?
-If you are going to start running, buy your runing shoes from a running store, fitted by someone who runs.
-Chiropracters are a godsend for any athlete or martial artist; find one that is certified in ART if you have a nagging injury.

At last, my TKD training paid off. And I thought it was useless...
Thanks for the advice!
PS: I really hope this thread gets lots of responses.

No, that's alright man. Correction is great, but if it's a lengthy discussion, a separate thread would be better.
Regarding the issue - it's just something that I've heard. I don't know nearly enough on the subject and I will research it further.

-Eat your damn veggies!
-Don't overcomplicate your workout routine. You'll just end up getting frustrated/confused.
-Set goals: Microgoals (for the day or shorter), short term, and long term.
-You are never too busy for exercise. Tabatas take 4 minutes.

- No supplement should replace real food. Real natural food (meat, eggs etc) is way better for you then any protein shake.
-As Ross Enamait says eat natural and bust your ass in the gym and you will be fine. Nutrition shouldn't be complex.
- Try not to eat anything out of a tin or box.
- If man made it then it is probably processed and not as natural as you would think.
- Nothing replaces Sparring. All the Strength and Conditioning routines in the world won't do dick if you don't spar. Always spar.
- Long Distance Running is NOT useless. I have noticed tremendous improvements in boxing from long distance running. Most people who say long distance running is useless couldn't run 2 miles under 12 mins if they had a rifle stuck up their arse. Running 5-8 miles as fast as you can is very difficult. Everybody should have some form of distance work in there program.
- Strength hasn't got much to do with punching power. Some of the very powerful punchers in my boxing gym can barely do 20 Pushups. To become a powerful puncher you need to learn the fundamentals and drill them into your skull over and over again.
- Always warm up correctly before working out. I forgot to warm up my neck and ended up not being able to move it for a week.
- If you have to work out early in the morning then a hot shower really helps wake the body up.

I think of it as a kind of crutch. With moderation it's nothing bad and can certainly help, but if left unchecked any reliance on external stimuli can become counterproductive IMO, whether it be music or amphetamine. If you can't supply 100% of your own motivation, it's time to reappraise.
