I prefer Asics also - again, make sure that they are right for your gait.

The thing is I bought my asics from them and last year paid £75. A few months later I was looking around ebay and saw them being sold for £40

Can't go wrong with te Asics 2130, arguably the best running shoe to hit the market.

Unless you're a neutral runner....

Or a severe overpronator.....

Or a supinator.....

You need a shoe that fits YOUR gait and level of pronation. I was running in the 2110 (predecessor to the 2130), and it was all wrong for me. It wasn't TERRIBLE for me, but I needed a neutral shoe. I would never have guessed.

Go to a specialty store and get fitted. I now have a Saucony Progrid Trigon 5 Ride. GREAT shoe.........for ME. It may be an AWFUL shoe for you.

It's worth the extra money just to avoid injury and unnecessary stress on your feet and legs. Get the right shoe the first time, and look for comparable cheapies the next time around (for example, when they make the "Trigon 6 Ride," I'll be able to buy these shoes for $20-40 off). It's the best way to go.

Also, Asics makes great shoes. I can't and won't argue that. But so does NB, Saucony, Nike, Reebok, Adidas, Brooks, etc. The question is, who has the best shoe for YOU. I chose between Nike and Saucony and took the Saucony for the extra cushioned ride. I'm glad I did.

I'm hoping to spend less than £30 (about $60).

I generally run anywhere from 4-7 miles about 3 or 4 days a week and always outdoors.

Thanks.
All you need to do is try on a bunch of shoes recommended by people at the shoe place until you find one that you like.

You only need to start analyzing stuff if you have very distinct tastes, or have had problems being fitted in the past, or have something else specific wrong with you. In which case you and the store person would note how much of an arch you have, which way your foot rotates, the size and width, and would search for shoes that fit these criteria.

You will be changing shoes every 4-6 months anyway so I would research and look for a bargain. Be safe because you can't afford to leave yourself open for a few runner's injuries.

I've been wearing New Balance shoes for my running for years, and they do me right. But I have a really wide foot, and NB is one of the few brands that I can always find my size 11 4E shoes that feel really good.
