Mental state while running..
I have never been a huge fan of running.. A few years ago I used to run alot, but an injury sidelined me for a while.. Now I am really trying to get my running back on track and get about 3 miles under my belt.. But for me, it seems like its hard to get into the right mental state of being able to run for distance... , I can run about 1 mile, at 6mph on the treadmill and I know I have more in me, but for some reason I either cant get my breathing right or the right mindset to work through the pain for a long time or something isnt clicking.. I seem to be able to mentally be able to work myself through the pain alot better on the bike or while lifting.. I wonder if its because running is harder?? Any tips would be appreciated..

I only run 30 minutes two or three times a week and I sincerely hate every minute. What doesn't help is that I live in an open windy area so at some part of my run I'm always up against the wind. I feel great afterwards though and that's what keeps me going but I prefer a 75 minutes gruesome kickboxingclass to a 30 minutes run anytime.

I'll remember this the next time I'm running on a cold windy day. against the wind, with legs that feel like they're made of concrete and smile. You're right about the endorphins though. Unfortunatly I only feel the effect of those just after the run and not during the run.

haha when i run i always imagine my girlfriend and her friends watching me or something until fatigue starts to really set in. Then i keep rethinking of what my coach used to say every second of my run once i started to slow down.
"if you can walk you can run"
and it is true. i have NEVER just collapsed due to muscle failure (when hydrated) cuz your legs truly are strong enough to far surpass your mental barrier.
After a while of just telling yourself that over and over again and actuallly having your legs keep trucking along... endorphins kick in and you dont feel much anymore. Time passes by quick during this time

Stop it, you're arousing me. Throw in some driving rain and nagging blister pain and I'll be creaming myself.
Running aerobically is probably the best way to learn to love running. If you get your running form and breathing pattern down, and make sure to stay below your lactate zone so your muscles are burning fat for fuel rather than redlining on glycogen, that's when you never want to stop. Trust me, at 30 minutes you're fully chilled out, at 60 you begin to sense the infinite interconnectedness of all entities within the universe, and at 90 you become a Bodhisattva and actually float along on a cloud of pure wisdom.

I'll keep that in mind when I'm dragging myself of my couch, reluctantly put on my joggingclothes and shoes, do some stretchingexercises hoping those will get me in the mood and get out the door after telling myself for the 100th time I'll feel great when the run's over .
