Rope Pulling and Climbing Fitness Machines

Has anyone ever seen this or tried it?

HiPEQ Rope Pulling and Climbing Fitness Machines

It looks a little hokey to me. I was looking to buy a climbing rope and I saw this. I don't see how it could be nearly as good a workout as actually climbing ropes.

I saw Fitch using this during the Countdown to his fight with St. Pierre.

That thing looks ridiculous. It's probably like any machine, it approximates the motion but it doesn't require you to stabilize yourself so it's easier. Part of what makes rope climbing difficult is that you have to work to keep your body from swinging too much. This thing looks you just do one-armed rows from a bunch of different angles. I'm sure my gym will have one of these by the end of the year

I bought a similar piece called the Endless Rope Endless Rope by Axios and every fighter I train uses it. You shouldn't really compare it to climbing rope, it is it's own exercise. It offers some of the benefits of regular rope climbing and it also has some advantages such as variable resistance and measurement of how far you've climbed, your speed, etc. It's simply impossible to do the speed pulling type work just climbing a regular rope. Of course climing a regular rope has advantages over a rope pulling machine too so like I said, they shouldn't be compared as an either or type of thing, they both have their place and are useful in training but overall the rope climbing machines are more versatile and have more application in sports performance.

why not buy a rope and tie it to something heavy. the gym i lift at has a rope tied to a large car tire . sit down and pull it towards you
