Resistance band training
I found myself in an unenviable position recently, with two fairly serious injuries, but I want to keep training. However, I don't feel comfortable using free weights at the moment, as I don't want to risk further aggravating my lower back issue.
One of my training partners swears by resistance bands, claiming he gets the same results from these as he does from free weights. I purchased a resistance band from Valeo, that said it's heavy resistance, but it doesn't feel like anything to me. I'm new to these things and could use some help. Do any of you use these things? And if so, do you think the results are comparable to free weights?

Resistance bands are great cuz you can take them anywhere, try not to think of them as replacing weights tho cuz they can do so much more, here's a few exercises I do.
Band Suplex, put the band around a low object, place the straps over your wrists (if your band has those plastic handles cut them off) and do suplexes to either side.
Band Sprawl, again put band around low object and put your feet throught the loops and do sprawls. you can also cross your feet over and face away from the object and do alternate knees, i like to do 20 sprawls then 20 knees and so on for a 3 minute round, absolutley kills.
Band Kicking and punching, loop band around either a low or chest level object and place one end through the hadle so you just have one piece of band in your hand, now you can either put in round your feet and do kicking or in your hand and do straight punching or you can put your hand through the loop so it sits above the elbow and work on your hooks.
just experiment with it and have fun, i take mine running with me and just stop when i want to do exerciese.

One of my favs I just started doing is a Standing Russian Twist with a band. I loop the band around a pole, grab with boths hands, arms straight out, and twist away from the pole.
Band Punching is great too, for the shoulders and obliques.

There is quite a few thing you can do with bands. The Russian twist one can be done on the floor too, but you need and anchor for them. You can use them for curls, tri-pulldowns, shoulder raises/presses and tons of other things. I like the ones where you can add more that one band. If there isn't enough resisitance, then try grabbing furhter from the ends, it should be a little more resistant then.
I don't thing they can replace free weights, but the make a decent substitute, if needed.
