Your cardio could get better depending on how you train.

Im in the same boat I need to quit smoking, but I have smoked for much longer, and I have a BJJ tourny comming up in May, Im a little worried.

Yes. Your cardio will def improve. When I quit...I did alot of cardio. In a matter of a month or 2 my cardio went up bigtime. Start doing burpees. Running, or eliptical along with some other types of cardio.

I believe it's after like 6 months of not smoking your body is basically the same as if you had never smoked at all...

Assuming you haven't smoked for like 40 years.

The human body is incredibly adaptive.

one year of smoking is not that much and you can get into olympic shape if you train earnestly, but never smoke again

still one year is pretty long in a sense that its enough to shape you smoker and you know "once a smoker always a smoker"...so do not come here and say "I quit" if you had your last ciggaret like 2-days ago

dont alow one year be 30 years and it will be fine

yes, just train your ass off, and stay motivated and dont hang out with people who smoke. you can make it as easy or as hard on yourself as you want, it just all depends on how motivated you are. i from experience went from being in the worst shape of my lfe, to being in the best shape of my life in about a year, and was smoking ciggerettes before all of that too. as far as weed goes, you dont really have to quit smoking weed, it doesnt afect your cardio, it does affect your motivation though. drinking alcohol is much worse for your cardio than smoking in my opinion.

I smoked from when I was 19-22 and I have better cardio now than when I wrestled in high school.

Its gonna be hard as hell to stop but I found that the more often I worked out the less I wanted to smoke. I had to stop drinking for a while too because the two go together so well. Good luck

The big one.

On the other part, I'm the opposite. I always feel like a cig is the perfect thing for just after working out, just before a nice long shower.

This has been addressed in previous threads before. One year of smoking of course is not good but it's not that bad. Like others have mentioned, if you concentrate and push yourself then you should see great improvements in your cardio.
