a question concerning hills and heart rate

A question for anyone in the know :

If i was to run up a hill 10 times record my max rate on my heart rate monitor and record, 187 for example.

If my cardio improves will i be able to run up the same hill but have a lower heart rate.

cheers,

Theoretically, yes.

Heart rate is the amount of times your heart beats per minute. Your heart rate is directly related to your stroke volume (don't laugh) the amount of blood that gets pumped throughout your body per heart contraction.

As your body changes from the demands of exercise, not only do your lungs become better at oxygenating blood but your heart becomes more effective at pumping blood. As it becomes more efficient it has to pump less, that's why trained athletes have lower heart rates than non-trained people.

The answer is yes, theoretically you should be able to perform the same absolute workload under the same conditions at a lower heart rate after training.
The Colonel hit it on the money.

If your HR goes down I would increase the intensity of the run unless you wanted to just maintain the level at which your HR adapted to.

a man with a colonel sanders AV discussing heart rate, ironic?

Sure. It could change without improved cardio simply with different environmental conditions. That being said your HR is not always going to correlate perfectly with performance. In other words you could lay HR graphs on top of one another from two different days and even if they matched up perfectly, there is a good chance that your times would be slightly different.
