If you want to learn basic marksmanship with a rifle, there is almost certainly an Appleseed somewhere near you. The Appleseed clinics don't teach any kind of fancy tactical fighting, but focus on teaching the steps to firing a shot and consistently shooting to 4 MOA.

Marksmanship is really not a problem i have known how to handle a gun and do all of the basic stuff now for at least 6-7 years. I shoot maybe once or twice a week from a 30-30 winchester, revolver, and glock and tend to do well with target shooting.

I'm going on holiday in 13th Days and would like a book to read so Im considering this after reading the intro but If its more a political book about defending Bush decision, and god etc... then I think i'll pass. If its an epic tale of what the man went through then I think I'd like it

Just read it.

I've come to believe that special forces training is primarily a test of mental fortitude. IMHO the people that have the mental fortitude and still fail do so primarily because of injury. If you believe you have the "toughness" required to get through training, I'd focus on conditioning (run, swim, and crossfit type workouts) and take up an active aproach to prehab on joints prone to injury (ankle and knee primarily, but some shoulder work won't hurt you).
I like some of the stuff dick hartzell does ( Dick Hartzell, bands, and flexibility ) for rehab and prehab, but it's certainly not the end all be all.
good luck.

??? What are you talking about? I was responding to the post above mine regarding marksmanship. I wasn't talking about any other aspects of training; just commenting on the neccesity of having solid fundamentals in order to be able to effectively shoot in combat. There was already enough said about conditioning and the mental aspect that I didn't feel the need to add more to it. And I do have a pretty good idea of what's necessary in order to operate effectively in a combat environment having BTDT.

You should start running a lot and after that run some more. Conditioning is a huge part of being in sf. Focus on a lot of body weight workouts dips, pull ups, and push ups. Also get very friendly with water because you will be in it most of the time.
Don't go out and practice shooting because when you join the military they will tell you to forget everything you know. When you go in they teach you everything you need about shooting a rifle/pistol.
A lot of people are saying a lot of it is mental and its true. Almost everything they do is a test to break you down and make you quit.

Mental fortitude and it also helps if you're a strong swimmer. Almost anyone can train physically but when you put them in the water people loose their cool.

I bought mine from Iron Woody Fitness Bands, SteelStretch Shirts, Woody Bags, Kettlebells, Bumper Plates, Hand Grips, Woody Bands, Bone Crusher Grips . They're the 41" bands. the athletic package (I know it costs over a hundred bucks but it oughta last you a lifetime if all you do is stretch with them) is probably the first and last band package most people will ever need. The stretching definitely is conducive to injury prevention and strengthening your joints in their weakest positions, but be sure to look into all of hartzell's videos on the elitefts channel, there's a lot of good information on injury rehab that would be useful for fortifying your joints against future injuries.
