Preparing for MMA

Well, I'm 14 and I'm from NYC, and I've recently lost interest of playing games and gained interest in MMA (Thank you Lord for UFC and SpikeTV). Before this, I had this cycle, where I would get in shape in the summer time, and then lose it all during the winter months. This summer, I TOTALLY wasted it playing games. I wholeheartedly regret that. At the moment, I believe I AM out of shape, and I decided that martial arts can solve the problem. I'm planning on taking BJJ and MT, with BJJ first.

Can you experts out there recommend some training and stretching exercises for me? I think I'm somewhat flexible, but I know BJJ isn't that hardcore on flexibility than martial arts such as TKD. I'd love to see the input, because I really need to get fit. I know that I'll cardio exercises, a diet change, and gain more flexibility, but I wanted to know what the experts would say.

I know it's normal for people to start BJJ being overweight and out of shape, but I wanted to be prepared for it.
And not look that bad.

I disagree with that, if you aren't flexible you will have hard time getting out submissions.

My recommendation for doing any kind of martial art is to start running if you aren't already. It's an easy answer, but running still gets overlooked.

Notice I said it's not as hardcore on flexibility than martial arts such as TaeKwonDo. I was comparing BJJ with TKD. I never said it didn't require flexibility.

What kind of running? Sprints or long distance?

long distance first, 20 , 30 , 40 minutes. intense (85% bpm+) exercise may cause ur bones to mature prematurely so i wouldnt do sprints at all.

No and No. Long runs are only bad if you like gassing whilst fighting. 40 minutes is also not a very long run. You need to have a cardio base from longer runs and it will make everything else come easier.

Although I agree you need an cardio base before you do sprints the longer runs will not nessessarliy make you perform better in the ring or the cage. Sure it helps but the sprints is what is going to amke or break you in the ring. That is just the way a fight goes. Running a marathon will not help a fighter
