hi
a new parkour gym opened up close to me and i thought of instead of doing road work free running would be more usefull as it uses all the body. so what u guys think parkour vs roadwork?

Maybe, if you're good, but don't throw out roadwork completely. The point of roadwork is to keep your heart rate elevated to a specific zone and try to develop a sense of pace. You can't really do that with the stop-start nature of PK.

That said, I've worked in a bit of PK on casual runs and it's damn challenging cardio and coordination-wise. Just doing 5 minutes of precision work jumping between low walls or even cracks in the pavement can be a hell of a workout.

And FYI: PK is distinct from free running. Leave out the gay flips and spins.

Not sure what to think. The learning curve is high for some of the parkour I've seen. I don't see anything wrong with using it to add some variety, but roadwork is pretty simple, anyone can do it. Just my 2 cents though.

I want pics of a "parkour gym". Some friends and I tried parkour because of its social-political signifigance; it's a tough workout, and indeed the learning curve for most of the 'advanced' stuff is quite steep. And you can really fuck yourself up if you fall the wrong way, or from too high up. Be careful!

You don't live in toronto by any chance, do you spartan? The toronto parkour community opened up a gym here recently.
Parkour makes for a fun alternative to roadwork. HOWEVER, do keep in mind your risk of injury goes up significantly, with the increase in benefits (i.e., better taxing of your stabilizers, coordination, etc).

I mix in my parkour training with my regular training for mma when I get bored of roadwork once in a while. Keeps this interesting. Just make sure your joints can handle the change from simple roadwork to parkour.

If you plan on training in the gym, I hope it has a spring floor of some sort. No point injuring yourself when trying out parkour instead of your roadwork.
