Out of shape bastard
Hi, i am currently a fat slob that's been doing some cardio for about 3 weeks only cycling. But i'm getting a heavy bag and i'm gonna get a bench so i can do some muscle training. But i was a pretty athletic guy in my teens i was a talented goal keeper in soccer and had a pretty good conditioning even though i smoked and always been overweight since i was 3 years old.Now i wanna start getting in shape again i've been going downhill since i was 16 now i'm 23, i had som psychic problems that involved depression so i let it all go to hell. And i'm in very bad condition just gotten my blood pressure under control and it's okay now.So i want to start training again but at home with the things i said i was buying and other things you can tips me with.I'm getting in shape because i'm a very competitve person and i nedd to compete in something and i've found out it's gonna be jiu jitsu and maybe boxing. So do you guys have any good tips for me who's in a real bad shape so i can loose pounds and get in shape so i can get starting in jiu jitsu i'm about 130 kg that's about 275 pounds close to 300.I got bj like flexibility in my legs so i don't need tips for stretching, but things i can do and things i can use to get a good start doing jiu jitsu and boxing.I told you my whole story so you know bad of a shape i am in.

Keep pushin, it sounds like you know what you need to do.
In '08, I was t-boned and the car accident murder my new truck, and I was down & out. I gained like 30lbs of fat during my recover phase. I didn't realize I was fat until my girlfriend told me I had boobs. So I started swimming since I wasn't allowed to run. Then as I healed, I started doing long distance runs and sprints. After my back was ok, I started weight training again doing only basic compound lifts. So now I'm healthy again... still ugly, but healthy.

join the jiu-jitsu class ASAP
MA is like the best possible hobby you can have IMO, it will help you both physically and mentally. It's like having a gym membership and therapist in one. Also, it will boost your confidence and self esteem 1000%
You are going to gas hard at first (I know because I still do, I smoked for 16 years) but just barrel through it. Go to class as many times as you can per week, but by the same token don't over train in the beginning.
Oh and quit smoking right now if you haven't. Believe me, you'll lose the desire to smoke once you start doing the BJJ.
good luck

I only smoke when i drink that's about once a month. But if i join now i'll have to grapple against bigger and older men and they've gotten that "old man strength".But i will think about it i thought i'd wait til i get to the next highest weight class not the highest. =p
but thanks for the time to reply.

I agree with caelitus
Just get started on BJJ now, keep up everything you're doing but the BJJ classes will help give you some structure, some motivation, and some goals outside of just dropping pounds.
I don't do BJJ but I started boxing/kickboxing a few months ago when I was pretty badly out of shape. I thought i would die the first few times i went, but eventually I started to get some cardio and strength back and started noticing my body slimming and strengthening as well. I went from getting hammered in light sparring sessions to holding my own. It gave me something to focus on aside from my fat-ass and my poor fitness. Both of those are still problematic, but training is helping way more than fun-runs ever did. Don't sweat the fact that you're going to go in the first time get tired, get your ass handed to you when you roll, and basically just feel like a tool...everyone is like that the first time. Good luck!

It might sound cheesey but the best thing Ive seen help alot of overwight people get in shape is handball. if you can find people to play with. this will help your hand eye cordination, footwork and cardio all in one game. You'll start out geting gased halfway through a game and before you know it you will be puting in 2 or 3 hour hand ball sessions. hand ball isn't the only sport but it seems to be a good one for people that are out of shape. Basket ball and soccer is alot of running for someone who is really out of shape and takes a little more athleatisism than hand ball. and softball isn't really enuff exercise to keep the heart rate up.

Yeah i've played handball before in my teens too.And it was very funny but the problem is to get enough people and a place to play it.But i'm thinking if i start doing some cycling and uphill sprints a couple times each with some muscle training for my upperbody and core it will make some good impact. But i live at home with my parents and i'm trying to eat healthy and it's kinda hard because we're norwegian and they eat alot of food with potatoes and i'm trying to be healthy and eating protein rich food with little carbs but i don't really know alot of food i can eat. It's like i know about red meat to get proteins and chicken without skin and it's okay (i'm very sick and tired of food) but i don't know what to have beside the beef and chicken.Like can i eat pasta or rice? if you got some good healthy food tips just write it down. Thanks for the help btw.

I'm of a similar background to yourself, I've always been big and overweight since I can remember, I've always been talented at sports but at the same time I had no cardio but good athleticism.
At the age of 18 when I weighed around 265lbs I lost my job and went into a slum of depression for a good 2.5yrs, not working and just playing computer games and eating. During that time I balooned up to around 330lbs and stayed right around that 330 mark until the beginning of this year when I decided to change my habbits.
I'm 6ft4 and I currently weigh 280lb but I don't feel as fat as I did at 265, due to height changes and muscle changes. I lost the majority of this weight through good diet and hightened activity. I currently now go to the gym 2-3 times a week and kayak with my girlfriend 2-3 times a week. I'm hoping to start BJJ this Monday with an old school friend, 4 hours an evening 3 times a week.
Just keep your head up and keep plowing through, eventually you will reep the benefits of your efforts and eventually be the happiest you've been, as you appreciate it so much after being so low.
