Nose problem? No cardio?

I am 25 and pretty out of shape. At some point (when I was 18) I could jog for 1 hour straight and stop because I was bored not because I was tired. The thing is that even then my friends had even better cardio than I did. And once I was told my nose bone may be a little deformed or moved cuz otherwise I would have a much better cardio. I am doing boxing now and I feel my cardio is crap and that my nose can take very little air. How can I know whether I should get my nose fixed or whether I have an actual problem with the ammount of oxygen my nose can take?

Sorry if this is a silly question, I assume it is not. One of my noseholes looks like Myke Tyson's (HUGE) and the other one is pretty small, you can even notice that in pictures.

Thanks guys.

My nose is largely ornamental too. I've tried breathing through it while doing cardio but it's like sucking air through a straw, no matter how many snot rockets I blast out or how well-kempt my nasal hair is.

I wouldn't say it has impeded my cardio though. I have better cardio than anybody I know.... but what might I be with functional nasal passages? We shall never know.

Revok thank you for your reply. so you say that less than ideal nasal passages have no heavy detrimental effects on an athlete's cardio? I am glad to hear that (I hope I am understanding you correctly).

You mentioned "I have tried using it..." so you don't really breathe through your nose as you do cardio work? I try to breathe through my nose and exhale through my mouth but after a while I feel really frustrated with my nose air intake. I try to breathe so hard I can feel all sorts of things (mucus, sweat, water).

please keep posting. thanks guys.

I have this same problem, i have a deviated septum that i'm thinking about having taken care of. It makes it hard to train and run with it.

CroCop, I have considered the same option. I am not that serious into MMA but I really feel my cardio is missing partly because of this problem.

Is the procedure easy/safe? thanks guys.

Yes, when I say my nose is ornamental I mean it has zero practical use when it comes to breathing during cardio. During sprints and such I breathe entirely through my mouth, but on long runs where breath can to be controlled I mess around with different methods, in through the mouth/out the nose, or taking air through my nose and mouth simultaneously but with a 25/75% split (it takes some practice).

I remember someone on here saying that breathing in through the nose and out through the mouth creates a cycle of air, meaning you're never inhaling any stale/exhaled air, and so your breathing is maximally efficient. How true that is I don't know.
