Noob question about running in a gym
I know I'll get flamed for this...but heres goes anyways...
I usually run outside for 30 min to 1 hour depending on how good of shape I'm in...I just recently joined a gym...it has a row of treadmills, eliptical runners and bikes...so usually I'm always hitting the treadmill, but is there an advantage to the others cardio/fat burn wise? Also I'm new to the features on the treadmill, and usually hit quick start...but I tried Cardio today and there are obviously other options...any hints to what are the bests?

Why would you get flamed for asking that? I think anytime you can get some cross training in it's always beneficial. Works different muscles.....variation in intensity...all good. I think the bike and doing sprints on it is the best workout for me. I"m not a big fan of elliptical machines...I can't give you a valid reason why....I just don't like them.
Interval training is the way to go to get some good cardio. And if you can do interval training on a few different machines...all the better. Don't be afraid to raise the incline on the treadmills if you can. That's a nice workout. Not sure what kind of treadmills they have but if it has different programs, give them a try. Some might have different speeds and inclines programmed in....so you won't have to worry about changing it manually. Good luck

I was told the eliptical machines were the most efficent at burning calories. But placing a treadmill on an incline sounds like a mean workout.

What are you training for
Are you the 'wants to pack in chemistry and become a pro MMA' guy?
I'm not a fan of machines for cardio work for something you could do without.
Rowing machine however, sets of sprints HIIT style on that are good (different kind of queziness to running, but none the less I feel drained and dizzy)

i dont understand why people use tredmills? i supose its good if your doing interval training and want to jump from one place to another, but apart from that running outside seems much better, im sure most people live somewhere with some outside scenery much nicer than inside the gym, also you can push urself harder and make noise or whatever without caring what people think

I agree...unless you have a fine piece of ass on the treadmill in front of you of course.

Yeah. I like treadmills for interval training because you can regulate everything all nice. But running outside is much more relaxing and it goes by quicker IMO. Plus a motor and handrails aren't helping your muscles.

sprint types are good, the ones that make you work hard for a brief period but I tell
you those stupid machines do not compare to a real live body weight workout.
the machines are there for those people who do not have the time to be creative
and just want reps.

Hey guys, a few of you may be interested in this.
It gives a run down of various exercises and the calories burned per exercise, for a few different weight classes.
