No!!! Whats Wrong?

ok guys...i have got a big problem (or maybe a tiny one)...i am a striker out of Michigan and i just had my 1st MMA match, i worked my but off for this, did carido everyday, trained like a maniac whenever i could. did everything i thought i would need to do to get ready(i mean stuff i would do outside of actually training with my gym).

The day of the match, i was very out of breath. Just hanging out in my yard and stuff, i was just standing there out of breath. i wasnt sure if i cut weight to hard, i was starving my self pretty good, we weighed in like 2 hours before the fight, so i couldnt do water weight cutting the day before or anything.

I get to my match, and i didnt feel very nervous or anything, the guy was 29 and i was 19. (the fight was in July, i have another coming up) But i was just out of breath. SO FRUSTRATING! just warming up and stuff was just killing me. i didnt warm up at all before the fight, cause it just felt so taxing on my system.

I gassed HORRIBLY half way through the 1st round. (THANK GOD the guy i fought was a huge muscle freak and he gassed just as bad). i some how made it to the 3rd round by TKO with a body shot. After the fight my chest/heart hurt SO BAD, i thought about going to the hospital. even 45 min after the fight my chest hurt. I did have pretty bad allergies that week, could that have been it? and i didnt think i was nervous, but was i just tricking myself and i actually was? did starving myself do this? (i know its not healthy) Was my mouth guard hole too tiny to breath out of? i was in great cardio shape, but it just didnt work in the fight.

Thoughts and advice from some veterans/fighter would be great. THANKS!

It could be the weight cut. Was it a rapid weight cut, or did you manage the weight loss over a gradual prescribed period of time?

Also, it is possible that you experienced an adrenaline dump. Sometimes they can occur even before the fight if you get yourself too worked up.

You mention that it was your first MMA match. Have you ever fought competively before that in any other discipline?

I can almost guarantee you had an adrenaline dump. I've had the same things happen when I was doing something new. First Race, I puked on the starting line before the green flag. Just gotta work on staying calm so that doesn't happen. Breathing is something you should pay attention to for sure.

Those adrenaline dumps sound nasty. I've got my first kickboxing bout coming up, I hope I don't get it too bad!

Im certainly no expert but I had the same experience with my first fight a little more than a week ago. I was in great shape. In practice I can spar 5 min 5 rounds after a tough 1 hr warm up, no problem. In the fight I gassed when we touched gloves. I felt like all my energy was drained from me. I was not overly nervous going into the cage either. I hope my trainer is right and I can expect it to affect me less and less each time.
