It can be any iPod and I do know that there are certain ways to make in compatible with any shoe, but I'm exactly sure what that is. Try going to the Nike+ forums and asking around there, those guys will know much more about it for sure.

I think you get a sensor, and that can be attached to other shoes and will work exactly the same.

Yeah you can buy/make a little pouch to pop the sensor into. For example:

Wow, that's suprising. I wonder why that is, seeing as how it just connects to the same place where a charger would connect, and that's the same on all ipods? Oh well, nano's are easier to run with I guess. lol

No the connection on a shuffle is the same as a headphone jack.

Personally i'm more interested in the new timex watch with Ipod controls over this, although i can't complain about the shuffle i have, it's great for running or lifting

I used to use a regular pair of running shoes with the Nike + system. If you take a small dab of super glue and apply it to the tongue of your shoe it will stay there while you run. Also if you want to take it off later you can pull it back off and scratch the glue off of the transmitter. Works just as well as the Nike + shoes, the transmitter is just out on the open to see on these shoes.
