New to MMA and have some questions
Hi all,
I've recently become interested in MMA and am hoping to start training in it soon (8 weeks to be precise). I have a problem though, I'm fairly skinny (more than normal) and don't think I could train/fight with normal guys atm. I have developed a workout schedule to hopefully combat this so could you please tell me what you think of it.
Monday: Pushups (3 x 120), done at 3 different times during the day (e.g 10:00 am = 100, 1:00 pm = 100 etc)
Tuesday: Weights (400 x 3kg, 100 x 10kg and 20 chin-ups) (done 3 different times a day as above)
Wednesday: Squats x 100 and triceps dips x 100 (done 3 different times a day)
Thursday: Same as Monday
Friday: Same as Tuesday
Saturday: Same as Wednesday
Sunday: Rest
I also cycle about 8 km a day and run about 5.5 km a day (except for weekends)
I eat a healthy diet and am also eating protein bars every second day. Do you guys think I could improve on this schedule or think I could change it for the better in some way? Thanks

jigga what!?!?
first of all don't be worried about being too small. if you're small and unexperienced then most likely they'll go easy on you, and most likey your instructor isn't going to throw you right into sparring.
you want to bulk up right? try the 5x5. You do 5repsx5sets
of compound exercises. Focus on Squat, Deadlift, Bench Press, Overhead Press, Bent Over Rows, Weighted Pullups(etc)
if you want to get some power and explosiveness do some hangcleans, powercleans, push press, push jerk, snatch anything that's an olympic lift or variation of one
don't do too much cardio if you want to bulk up, keep it short and intense. Don't forget about bodyweight exercises keep up the dips, pullups, pushups, single leg squats.
WORK HARD MAN!

hey dude, i can't really help you out with your routine bcuz to be honest i'm not too good with mine either. just wanna say two things:
-if you gonna start training mma, you wanna start looking into striking. in the mean time watch some instructional videos and get your head around the concepts. if you don't have a boxing back, that's no problem, use a matress or something, or just shaddow box (don't hit anything).
-also, don't be so convinced that being tall/skinny is such a bad thing for fighting. obviously you'll develop strength and other attributes if you train right, but generally a tall lanky build is not a bad thing for mma. look at some great fighters: a. silva, nate diaz, miguel torres, the list goes on, all these guys are great fighters. obviously they're not skinny, bcuz they train, but they have that skinny/lanky build.
good luck.

I think all the FAQ's in the training forums would be a good investment in time for you, as far as your routine goes, tell me.
What are you trying to accomplish?
What do you think that outcome of your training will be?
Do they match up?

Well, MMA is a weight class sport, so dont worry about being skinny. You SHOULD worry about being weak though. The 5x5 that Standard suggested is a good program to start strength training.
