need help, getting into shape

I hurt my ankle and I am trying to get back in shape for the first time in two years. I have great genetics and an a solid base. However, two years of inactivity have compromised my overall shape. I still have a good base and some definition .. what regular exercise routine can help me out? any suggestions? do I alterbate days? please be specific , like I mentionned I have good genetics and never relied on excecise , so I only know basic terms.

Bit of a broad question. What's your fitness level like right now? Can you run for 30-45 minutes straight? What kind of exercise do you LIKE to do? Are you training for a competition or are you just looking to get into overall better shape?

Honestly, I think that you need to throw the whole great genetics thing out the window. Imo great genes dont get you in great shape, they just make you look like your in great shape. Im not trying to bag on you but I think that you need to realize that hard work is the only way to get in good shape. If you havent done anything I wouldnt count on being in good shape.

My first post ever, in any forum. Man In Black you are taking my virginity away. Yeah, the genetic thing can get the hell. I think your best bet starting out would be to hit a gym and see where your "base" actually is at, you might be shocked to see where two years of inactivity has landed you. Kind of like that one person asked, what are you trying to get in shape for? Fighting shape is different from training shape is different from average gym person shape. I would start out on an elliptical, treadmill, stairmaster, etc., and see how you feel after a few minutes, probably shouldn't blow your wad right away or you will pay the price over the next few days. Surprisingly, an old fashioned jump rope will test you as well. Try one and see how you feel after 3 minutes of straight, fast paced jumping. If your legs and shoulders are alright, increase that time to say 10 minutes. Let us know if you try any of these and how you feel afterwards. I'm sure after you have started and provide more information, more people will post and help you out.

Take it easy.....
You should have gotten some rehabilitation advice from your doctor to prevent a re-occuring injury.

I've got bad legs(knees, ankles, bones etc..) and like yourself I used to be in great shape but an injury(or in my case 6 in a row) caused me to be inactive for a couple years.

I'm trying to get back into shape and since running is out of the question I am thinking of an exercise bike.

Should be good for your ankle as well as there is a lot less pressure placed on it when biking.
