Neck Issue...Need Conditioning advice
I strained my neck muscle, right trap and dislocated my elbow while grappling a couple weeks ago and have been working on getting back into grappling shape as well as building up the muscle in my neck so this wont happen again. I was wondering with the strain (it still feels like it has a knot in it) how long should I still rest for before I go back into grappling? I also wanted to know what type of conditioning can I do if I can't go back for a while? Anything will help.
Thank you
Gerry

DO NOT go back until that is 100% better. I had that exact injury and went back early cos I didnt want to fall behind, and did it worse, and now I have that injury for life, it never fully goes away, always there and so easily strained. In the meantime, go running or do some circuit training, nothing involving any trauma to the neck. A mate of mine had to quit judo altogether because of it, I got away lucky.

Be patient, and wait until the pain is completely gone, then wait a little longer. Everything heals in time, but you're not doing yourself any favors if you come back too soon. If you can afford a physical therapist, you might get some good advice there also.

Spend the time tuning up your condition. Run and lift in this time off from grappling. Also, spend time studying the game.

neck conditioning
I'm sure you've already thought of this but i'll throw it out there anyways... you may want to consider doing some neck strengthening exercises like a back bridge/ front head bridge, they really strengthen up all the muscles that work with your neck. Of course you likely won't be able to do them till your all healed up but it would be good for injury prevention in the future.

Yep same thing happened to me. I had a horrible neck injury and wrestled a season on it. Now my neck gets strained easily, or I get pinched nerves easy. It sucks, don't play around with your neck. I'm 25 and I have degenerative disc disease in my neck. Dude go to a Physical therapist. Go to a sports doctor. Also go on Amazon and look up overcoming neck and backpain, and get one of those books, they have good stretching/lifestyle tips.

I had bad neck pains, and upper back pains a few months ago and started going to a chiropractor whenever it would act up, and I've feel good to go afterwards.
