Neck Exercise Bas Rutten All round workout.

Newby question.

How do you do the neck exercise on the Bas Rutten all round workout?

Plus another really stupid question and the answer is probably very logical.

I hear some guys saying they do three 2 minute rounds of the boxing, thai boxing etc when you workout. Do you mean you literraly do a 6 minute workout or you do the whole 30 minute workout 3 times.

:red face: <-----------------------See these faces, yes embarressed but if you don't ask, you'll never know.

Cheers.

I always use my hands to help my neck....never do it without the hands it could give some really nasty problems with your spine when you became older.

I used a audio editing program and I united the 3min MT rounds two by two. So now I have 5x6min rounds total 30min workout.

I disagree here. Build up to using only your neck, once you feel safe attempting it.

To the OP:

The neck exercise is called the bridge. http://www.naturalpsyence.com/images/Picture56.jpg

And yes, a lot of people only do a few rounds of the workout. Intensity is more important to time. If you can work your ass into the ground by using 100% intensity for a few rounds, then you're probably better off than going at 70% for the full time.

Definitely agreed here. Once your intensity and technique go to shit, its time to take a round off and go at it again full force when you are refreshed.
The All Around workout, on the other hand, is something to just get through. As long as you are going as hard as you can at whatever point in the workout you are in, you are good.
Again, I don't suggest this for the fighting tracks.

Simple advice from a wrestler, don't bridge on your head unless you're a wrestler, even so restrict it to minimum. I used to do all this sh....Walkovers,spins all with no hands, standing on head with no hands for time, all this stuff will compress your discs vary badly, and guess what, It's not coming back to normal when you get older.
Even wrestling coaches use bridges now to minimum, knowing how bad it is. The reason we do bridges is because we perform it in the wrestling match not to touch the mat with the back.In sports like mma or submission you don't need to do it because you don't lose the points by simply touching the mat with your back, I would even say it's dangerous to bridge in submission wrestling or bjj,you can get cought with few things very quickly if you try to bridge.Thre are better and safer ways to escape and to make your neck stronger.
Don't be stupid, learn from my and other wrestlers mistakes.

Regards

Thank you for the insights. I bridge almost every evening after foam rolling my back to help counter sitting at a computer all day. What would you recommend for developing neck strength as an alternative to bridging?

fail. not only is the bridge to work on getting off your back but it is also used to stretch and strengthen neck muscles. if your neck is weak as shit the bridge will be no good. obviously u dont wanna bridge in mma to get off your back cuz the last thing you wanna do is give up your back. but to bridge during a warm up and loosen up and stretch your neck is not a bad idea. hands or no hands.

There's no fail white belt. It dosen't take a rocket scientist to see for yourself that rotating and torquing part of your bodyweight on your cervical neck vertibre is risky at best. I can care less about any technique simply because it is time honored. The stardard is, is it smart and effective, risk v reward. There are other things one can do to strengthen their necks that dosen't require torquing under compression.
